Joey Cherdarchuk, Director – Darkhorse Analytics

Topic: Data Analytics and Visualization

Joey Cherdarchuk is a cofounder and the design lead at Darkhorse. A data visualization expert, his work has been featured in Fast Company, the Huffington Post, and the Washington Post. His Breathing City graphic was shortlisted for an Information is Beautiful award. Joey developed his design expertise after a 15-year quantitative analysis and consulting career. It is this analytical foundation that helps him create visuals that are both clear and engaging.

Kyle Dobson, Stu Cruikshank, & Brad Surette

Digitization of paper records was a strong step towards enabling the better management of documents through technology. Now, as the number of channels of interaction with organizations continues to increase, organizations have to respond again to how they track and manage its clients, as well as make use of the new sources of information. Join Stu, Brad and Kyle in a discussion on how a Ministry within the Government of Alberta is leveraging technology to not just manage their internal records but to enhance the level of service they provide their clients.

Kyle Dobson, CA, Manager, IT Advisory Services – Ernst & Young

Kyle is a Manager in the IT Advisory Services practice of EY, having spent 10 years with the firm. His career in consulting has had him helping organizations capitalize on the opportunities that innovations in technology offer. He does this by providing strategic guidance across a number of domains including information and technology strategy, architectural design and empowering organizations through the use of analytics. Kyle has led teams across Alberta, Canada, and North America in Public Sector, oil and gas, financial institutions, and utilities throughout the course of his consulting career.

Stu Cruikshank, Information Management – Government of Alberta

Stu has over 25 years of experience being both a builder and a user of digital technologies within the Government of Alberta. He is currently the champion of an enhanced records management capability within the Ministry of Indigenous Relations where the methods used to handle sensitive documentation are being enhanced through the adoption of OpenText. Stu would love to share the learnings he has had over his career with students and young professionals as he has seen the Alberta Government mature in its use of technology!

Brad Surette, Senior Manager, IT Advisory Services – Ernst & Young

Brad Surette is a Senior Manager and leads EY’s Canadian IT Advisory Services Enterprise Information Management (EIM) Practice. He has provided consulting services to over thirty public and private sector clients. His roles have included Business Analyst, Requirements Manager, Team Lead, Project Manager and Engagement Manager. He holds Government of Canada security clearance at the Top Secret level.


CIO Panel: 

David Oh, CIO & Director – Evergent Enterprises, Inc 

David Oh is an innovative business and technology leader accomplished in the development and implementation of complex and major organizational technology initiatives. David has over 20 years of experience stemming from a variety of industries including banking/investment management, retail, internet startups, health, management consulting, and public sector.
David is currently the CIO and Director at Evergent Enterprises Inc, which develops solutions, strategies, roadmaps and plans to deliver on business and technology transformation. Through Evergent, David is currently leading business strategy projects at the City of Edmonton.

David has been the CIO and Vice President Innovation at Alberta Gaming and Liquor (AGLC), an arms length government agency responsible for ensuring the gaming and liquor activities in Alberta are conducted honestly, openly and with integrity. David was responsible for leadership over AGLC’s innovation agenda, enterprise strategy, project delivery functions, and technology operations.

David was also a Senior Director at Gartner Consulting, and an Executive Director at Alberta Health Services (AHS) where he developed and successfully led its corporate technology merger strategy and program. David has also held roles as Director of Technology Strategy at AGF Management Ltd. and has consulted to Fortune 500 companies such as Dayton Hudson Corporation, Air Canada, CIBC, and GlaxoSmithKline.

Jason Sichkaryk, IT Manager – Rosenau Transport

Jason Sichkaryk is the IT Manager for Rosenau Transport, one of Western Canada’s largest LTL transportation companies. Rosenau’s IT department provides cost effective and reliable technology to more than twenty locations from Vancouver to Winnipeg. Jason has a Network Engineering diploma from NAIT and is currently pursuing a BAIST degree. He has over 11 years of IT infrastructure and management experience in various industries including software development, banking, engineering, power generation and transportation.


Ana Carija, Recruitment Consultant – FDM Group

Ana earned her Master’s degree in Teaching French Language and Contemporary Italian Philology and has previously lived in both Croatia and France. Prior to joining FDM, Ana worked as a French tutor and in-person interpreter. She started at FDM in a Receptionist and Travel Coordinator role before taking on the role of Academy Administrator. During this time, Ana was introduced to the FDM Recruitment Team and discovered her passion for helping new graduates jumpstart their careers. Her main responsibilities include “recruiting and sourcing fresh graduates for our academy program, attending career fairs, as well as organizing and conducting in-person assessments.

Ana speaks five languages including English and French, and works to recruit bilingual candidates. She is also involved with the translation of resumes, job postings and other documents. The most rewarding part of her job is “seeing the consultants I recruited thrive in their client placement that reminds me how much I like my job.” Ana’s favourite part about FDM is the “vibrant culture and opportunity for growth”, and she counts her colleagues as some of her closest friends. Her co-workers may not know that Ana was an actress in a local theatre for two years, and that she loves arts and crafts and fashion.
